I made liver treats exactly once, and I will never do it again. It stank up the entire house. If you can stand the smell, go for it. My dog loved them, but now I go for baked treats. I'll see if I can dig up the recipe.

My little dog gets treats everytime he comes in from outside. Naturally, he gained weight. The vet told me that a dog doesn't realize one treat is bigger than another;all they know is they get a treat. He suggested giving a cheerio (1) each time he comes in. My dog is excited to have the cheerio-sometimes I "splurge" and give him 2 or 3 which is healthier than bones each time.

I agree with the green beans, my dog Tucker loves them!
Treats are a good thing to give your dog, in moderation.

I give my pets delicious meals -- twice a day -- early morning and early evening -- with nothing in between -- why introduce bad habits? Giving treats once a month or once every two months may not be such a bad idea. I want them hungry for their nourishing meals -- if i give them treats all day, will they be hungry for good food?

I couldn't find directions it, but some people make liver treats (chunks of dried liver) using their microwave ovens rather than convential ovens.
