Do you think your dogs know when you getting ready to leave them and go on a trip?

Some people say no, I am simply projecting my feelings onto my dog. I tend to disagree. My dog has been very clingy this week. What do you think?

Absolutely! my dogs sneak into the car when I'm not looking and will not come out. Not so sure about the cats, they always climb into a suitcase or anything else i ever place on the bed for that matter.

My dog and cat both know.
My cat Pharaoh will get in my suitcase as I am trying to pack :)

Our dog knows. If you get a suitcase out she gets very nervous. When we clean and move stuff around she get upset too. She stays right with us and is like "take me with you, please". They know.

I know that they sense things and watch daily routines, so when something changes, they zone into it. My daughter had a cat that when she took her USAF air bag out, the cat related what the bag meant and acted differently. My dogs know when one puts her collar on that means time for their houses, maybe routine, maybe not. I do know that if you feel that you are upset about leaving or anxious, then they will sense that.

I think dogs definitely know something is up, that this is not their usual routine. At least in my case, I think the dog's anxiety comes from not knowing whether he is going with us or not. That part is hard to explain until it is time to go.

The dog doesn't seem to think much about it until it's time to get into the car (since she always comes along with us). But the cats certainly know several days ahead of time. Although we have adopted the practice of not taking out the suitcases until the last minute, they still know in advance & become more clingy, &/or demanding of attention. Energy, body lanuage, whatever, pets are so in tune, you just can't fool them!!

Here's what I say...pets are only human too and sometimes I think they can more sense when something is wrong with you than us actual humans.

Yes, I do believe your dog knows when you are going to leave them. I believe my dog even knows the difference between when I am leaving to run downtown quick and when I am leaving for an extended period of time. I think dogs are a lot smarter and have a lot more personality than some people give them credit for!

Katie Anne knows far more than I think she does. She stuck by my side through 7 months of bedrest and 3 knee surgeries, and I think that she is very in-tune with me. She'll go to her hiding spot 2 hours before a storm hits and she'll refuse to leave my side as soon as she sees any bag or luggage being packed. Dogs are smart and they know their human friends.

Absolutely.....as with all animals. Your body chemistry changes with your thoughts. Just thinking you are going away litterly smells different to them and thats how they know. Youve heard the saying,"something smells fishy around here...".
