Q: Do you think it is true about the dangers of commercial dog food?
I've been doing lots of searching on the internet lately and I have found lots of sites about dog foods and how people are 'killing' their dogs with the dog food we feed them. This is one of the websites I came across... www.thedogfoodconspiracy.com/dog-food-secrets.php
This is just one of the things I found very disturbing on the website...not sure whether or not to believe it...
"The city of Los Angeles alone, for example, sends some two hundred tons of euthanized cats and dogs to a pet food plant every month.
Not only is this immoral and disgusting... it's deadly.
The true horror is the drug used to kill these stray and abandoned animals, Sodium Pentobarbital, is not broken down by the manufacturing process and is still present in active form in your dog's food!!
And dog food companies don't stop with pets, your dog is also eating euthanized animals from zoos, animal control and putrid, decaying road kill.
All of these dead animals and other ghastly materials are processed until the portion left over for dog food production is a brown powder, which consists of 25% fecal matter." -www.thedogfoodconspiracy.com/dog-food-secrets.php
Does anyone believe this or know whether or not these things are true?
I sure hope not!
What do you guys use for your dogs?

YOU HAVE TO READ THE INGREDIENTS . IF YOU SEE WATER AS THE FIRST INGREDIENT PUT IT BACK ON THE SHELF. ALSO LOOK FOR MEAT BY PRODUCTS ...ANOTHER BAD SIGN. YOU WANT THE FIRST INGREDIENTS TO BE CHICKEN BROTH OR CHICKEN ETC.
A GREAT PUBLICATION IS THE WHOLE DOG JOURNAL. NO ADVERTISERS SO HONEST RECOMMENDATIONS. THEY LIKE MERRICK
PAUL NEWMANS TO NAME A FEW. IF YOU CAN BUY IT AT WALMART, OR A GROCERY STORE ITS A BAD CHOICE. BUT EVEN PETSMART IN MY AREA DOESNT CARRY HOLISTIC BRANDS.I BUY MY MERRICK DOG FOOD AT PET SUPPLIES PLUS

I've gone holistic my dog eats Verus I go to a specialty shop it is all holistic privately owned companies not small companies just private allot of the food you find in the shops like petco & petsmart if you look at the grocery market foods allot are owned by the same companies, you have to read the ingredients, know your dog, what he needs, I know Canidae, wellness & Verus are very good, and just because their expensive doesn't make them good, like I said the same food in the big pet stores that costs a little more may be made by the same manufacturers that make pedigree, the best pet store food if you go that way is pro plan, I think it was one of the Few that were not recalled. years ago when I had my 1st greyhound the NGAP gave us pro plan there are allot of different food now but at that time the director of NGAP found it to be the best for your money and he loves the greyhounds & is very active about saving them.

ABSOLUTELY!!!!!! Yes, I have done a lot of research and have files of the sick facts. Our practice ONLY recommends natural food products.
I personally found an entire cat claw and pieces of trash bags that I could actually unfold in a brand new bag of food. The FDA has information of the different drugs found in our pets food. The issue is that pet food companies purchase the base from rendering plants. The rendering plants purchase or get roadkill, euthanized animals (including trash bags, collars, drugs, cancer, rabies tags, etc.) spoiled meat from the supermarket (with the plastic wrap and styrofoam), any animal that dies on the way to slaughter. The really nasty part of that is to make it unsuitable for human consumption they pour creasote, kerosene, or citronella on the dead animal. Anyway I could go on and on. A pet food company in St.Louis was buying the dead dogs and cats from a shelter and using it just a few years ago. A certain large company has a plant there. Another big petfood company says they try not to purchase dead dogs and cats but can't always be sure the rendering plant doesn't use them.
Most major petfood companies are owned by human food companies. A great place to get rid of their trash and continue to make a profit.
Just email me for more specific info.
