Do you take your pet when you travel?

We wish we could take Harley with us but at 110#'s sometimes we have to find a sitter.

I love to take my dog (yes, large dog!). When driving, we take a pickup truck. We got a shell for the back specifically for one of our former dogs. It creates a cozy den & our dogs have seemed to be pretty happy. We also have a folding ramp to load/unload our dog. This is very nice if your dog goes swimming & is wet!

When flying, however, we have a live-in pet sitter. We had an awesome sitter during 9/11 when our flight was cancelled and we had to come home 3+days late!

I am always fostering a dog and they go with me from Ky to Florida. I have no problem with them.

We try to take some of the dogs, but it is getting more difficult to do so with 6, 4 of them being large.

If I am driving I will take my dog whenever possible. I don't think of it as a vacation without my pet. Unless of course if I fly --no way my dog stays with a friend.

I go away for two weeks every summer and I take four of my dogs with me. I'll be getting a new Great Dane puppy in a couple of weeks so next summer she'll be making the trip, too. I go to the Poconos where my mother has a summer place so I can take most of my dogs with me.

Unfortunately no as we usually travel outside the US to places where it is impractial if not impossible to take them.

I never take my cats with me. I take my dogs if I am going to visit family and will basically be with the dogs the whole time. But mostly I leave the dogs with their sitter, either here at the house or at the sitter's house. One of my dogs has separation anxiety, so I can't ever leave her unattended in a hotel room. It is just simpler to leave them home.

I had 3 cats, now one. I always took all 3 cats with me traveling in the car. The trips were mostly 5 hours each way, from NY to New England. However, I would not take them going to an event and staying in a hotel. Too much for all of us.

All 3 cats "knew the ropes." In their cat carriers, slept most of the way. One cat carrier for each cat. And sometimes this got pretty tight in the car! Two cats preferred being in the carrier.

But one cat, my jet setter," Kitty, always wanted out of the carrier and would find her place to sleep. The places she would find! Then she would take a stroll and visit me, driving. She never got near my feet nor on my lap. She knew the rules. When I was in the passenger seat, my lap was/is her favorite place.

She loved looking out the window!! And at first, the window wipers freaked her out as she was laying on the dashboard.

Kitty never got sick or was afraid. When she "just knew" we were going in the car, just like a dog, she loved it and was ready to go. Loved new places and new people.

My other two cats, Rebecca and Hopey, have passed on. I now only have Kitty. She is age 20. Because she is older, I think she would have a hard time if I left her with someone or at home with someone feeding her.

She now needs to be with me more. It would be too lonely for her and traumatic. So, I now take her when I go on trips and stay in a hotel. That said, I am aware that some car trips might be too much for her, as she is older, and sometimes it is better to leave her home with someone caring for her while I am gone. And she now likes to stay in her plush, comfy carrier more, now.

Kitty is great company...:):) We do communicate in the car. We do! :):)

I would always take my animals with me when traveling, if possible.

We take our two dogs with us when we travel to relatives' houses. The trip is only about 2 1/2 hours for one family member and then 3 1/2 to a different family member. We usually stop once on the way for bathroom breaks. They love being able to come with us and not be left behind. Naturally on far away vacations they stay home w/ family members who pet sits and house sits for us.
