Kris G.

My dog likes the peanut butter dog treats found at our local convenience store. Looking for a recipe to make my own treats so I can make sure they're fresh and have no salmonella.

our dogs love these - Melt 1 T honey and 1 t peanut butter in the microwave. Add 3/4 c flour, 1 egg,1/4 c shortening, 1 t baking soda, 1/4 c oats and 1/2 t vanilla. Mix it up and place small bites on a baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.

1 1/2 cups of water
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
2 Tsp vanilla
2 cups flour
3 TBSP peanut butter
1/2cup cornmeal
1/2 cup oatmeal

Whisk dry ingredients into wet forming into a ball of dough. Roll out about 1/2 inch thick piece and cut into desired shapes with cookie cutter is you want. Bake on ungreased, non-stick baking sheet at 400 degress F., for about 20 minutes. Shut oven off, leaving cookies in cooling oven until crispy. Store in airtight container. Since these treats have no preservatives, they have a short shelf life.

If your concerned about contaminated peanut butter, use a jar that you already have opened and know is safe.

The peanut butter recall is EXTREMELY extensive right now.The FDA is advising any products that contain PB should be checked with their recall list and with the individual company's website. You might be better off waiting.
