Q: Do you ever get mad at your pets?

A friend and I were talking the other day and we discussed this very topic and she promised she would reply and since I've been away I'm posting it now.

There are times when I get so doggone mad at the boys when they 'escape' out of the front door and I'm in a hurry or already running late. When I was in the cast Rustin made it a habit to hang out at the front door as soon as he heard the crutches and he got out on more than one occaision. I fussed at him and threatened to whip him but he knows his mommy would never hurt him. My furry ones are so spoiled that's it just a crying shame!

So, do you ever get mad at your pets and how do you correct them?

Let me clarify this here....I DO NOT WHIP MY CATS! Just wanted to make that clear! I will correct them verbally or give em a squirt now and then but no whippings in this house!

oh boy... lol... havent we all @ 1 time or another been frustrated with our fur babies... normally @ my house a firm no & a finger shake will normally do it... However my pup Cleo is being rather difficult on table surfing & trash can snooping... for that i have a rolled up newspaper that i will slap my hand with (i wont slap her with it), she doesnt like the noise & it generally works...

I don't get mad at them, I get frustrated. But I try not to let it show.

Of course. I keep telling them that they're going to be the death of their mother! Not that they pay attention to what I say....(maybe this is payback from my own parents!). But you can't stay mad long because they're so darn cute.

The book "The Loved Dog" (Tamar Geller is the author, if I remember right) starts out with a story of the author trying to figure out how to flush the toliet in her hotel room in a foreign country. Her point was that dogs don't instinctively know how to do the right thing in the human "foreign country". When I get frustrated with Charley the simple story of that lady trying to figure out what to do in a strange country has helped me keep from taking it out on my little puppy!

Begging is the worst. Bogie is 11 years old and he really knows how to push my buttons. Like begging he thinks if he breaths on my plate than I will give it to him. But now I just tell him that I will not stand for it anymore and throw the food away with him watching. Boy you would think that I had just beat him by the attitude he gives me.

Oh yes I get mad at Bailey. Especially when she
first arrived at our house and we had 2 chairs
reupholstered at about $1,300 and she scratched
the heck out of the bottom of them. Just pulled
her away and said "no." Of course the chairs
are a disaster and she still does it and we still
but them I am not having them replaced until I can
figure out what material she won't bother.

Then we have the problem when I hook her leash to the bush in front. I want to relax but she wants to go under them
and then gets tangled. I told her I was going to put up
entrance and exit signs as I am forever untangling her.

Then also in the morning when I'm trying to prepare her
breakfast she has to be on the counter right in front of me and in the way. So I just put her down on the floor.

Other than that once in a while she does give a nip
which she is in big trouble for. Gets a real scolding and
she goes off pouting.

But above and beyond the little annoyances she is a very
sweet cat and her kisses to try to wake you in the morning
far outweigh any of her minor bad habits.

She probably has to discipline her mom more as her
mom can be a tiger at times.

I do get angry sometimes, but I just get out the squirt bottle :) That works much better than yelling "get off the counter!" :) Normal human response, as long as it doesn't result in physical abuse!!!
