Q: Do you ever get mad at your pets?

A friend and I were talking the other day and we discussed this very topic and she promised she would reply and since I've been away I'm posting it now.

There are times when I get so doggone mad at the boys when they 'escape' out of the front door and I'm in a hurry or already running late. When I was in the cast Rustin made it a habit to hang out at the front door as soon as he heard the crutches and he got out on more than one occaision. I fussed at him and threatened to whip him but he knows his mommy would never hurt him. My furry ones are so spoiled that's it just a crying shame!

So, do you ever get mad at your pets and how do you correct them?

Let me clarify this here....I DO NOT WHIP MY CATS! Just wanted to make that clear! I will correct them verbally or give em a squirt now and then but no whippings in this house!

When Juney wakes me up at 2-3AM by pricking my arm with his little claw to let me know that he can see the bottom of the food bowl. There's food there but he can see the bottom. How do I correct him, he's a cat so I get up and fill the food bowl.............................Dennis

You asked if I ever get mad at Poppy, I have to say, no, not really, I get mad at myself for inadvertently setting her up by not planning ahead. For example, Poppy is a Service Dog. A few years ago, when We were just getting to know one another, we had a accident in a inappropriate place. I was embarrassed and I KNOW she was because she just looked at me and groaned deeply. It was totally my fault because I was running late and I did not slow down enough to make the time for her she needs.

Now, We have a standard routine, Out at 7, 20 minutes of poppy time which includes a good pee, fresh water, and a good brushing out and harnessing up, A 1/2 hour break at noon for another good pee, fresh water, a little romp and a treat, and at 5 we take another 1/2 hour for a walk, #2, and some ball time, with one last "outies" before bed. Poppy is my sweet heart and my best friend. Like any relationship I make time for her needs throughout the day, because she gives her all to me the rest of the time, Even when she is "off duty" she is always looking for small ins to help me or to serve the folks in my disabilities group with a little love.

Dogs love consistency and routine, and of course adoring worship and Play!

I used to get upset with Kittles....I would say it was probably 4-5 years ago.

I was out on the deck cleaning windows and had already started bringing Kittles out there with me. Well, down the stairs he went onto the ground. I yelled, "Kittles Blackheart Smith, you get up here right now! You're grounded!" He ran up the deck steps and right into the house. That happened only one more time.

The funny thing was that both times, my next door neighbor was out in her yard gardening and she cracked up laughing.

It is still a standing joke between she and I about how Kittles would get grounded. My grounding consisted of him not coming out on the deck with me for the rest of the day. Needless to say, he doesn't even entertain the thought of leaving the deck any longer.

Other than those two instances, I have never been upset with my Kittles. He is quite the perfect pet! Steve and I truly got lucky with him!
