Q: Do Racoons Bark?

It's 2:30AM and there is a "barking" sound coming from the woods behind our home. I don't think it's a dog because it's making the same sound over and over and dogs tend to have several barks and also whine. I've called Animal Control and their voicemail gives the emergency number which I called THEY tell me they CLOSE AT 11PM. I'm not sure what I can do until daylight (or 7AM when Animal Control opens again) The woods are pretty thick and even with a bright flashlight I can not see any eyes reflecting in the light. I can not tell if the animal is trapped or caught or if it's a young racoon who got separated from it's mom.

Raccoons actually seem to have a lot of different verbal sounds.
When I've seen mothers and kits, you tend to hear more "clicking and chatter"sounds.
I have seen adults though kind of roughing it up with other adult Raccoons and the sounds definitely sounded like growl/bark/yipping
to me,so I'm assuming that when they do this sort of barking that I've heard, that it's to show intimidation, & that they mean business.
I don't know what to think about you hearing that sound all night long.I'm thinking maybe a young Kit trying to act brave,or an older one trying to keep someone out of his territory.
Just my thoughts of course.

Could be a fox or coyote. Don't let out your dogs alone or cats if you have them. Make sure all your pets had their rabies vaccs.
