Q: do cats get allergies?

I noticed some of the outside kitties are sneezing and some of their eyelids are a little red. Do they get outdoor allergies like we do? would benedryl help?

The outside kitties should be at a Vet, sounds like more than allergies, if your they should not be outside, if not yours call SPCA yu are not doing them a favor by leaving them out there to continue to breed, unless you know they have all been spayed & neutered, and if they have it will be easier for a rescue to find them a good home

As Robyn said, sounds like the cats have some upper respiratory issues as well as possible eye infections. While both cats and dogs do get allergies, they do not have the same symptoms as humans. People usually get the runny nose, sneezing and itchy eyes. Dogs and cats show both seasonal and food allergies through skin conditions. Please don't medicate the cats without a vet visit first. Even if you knew that Benadryl was safe, you can't be sure about your cats' diagnosis. Dosing can also be tricky as Benadryl was made for 130 lbs + humans and your cats are more likely to be around 10lbs

cats do get allergies, but do not given them any medication unless a vet has made this diagnosis. Sneezing and red eyes can also be signs of upper respiratory infections. And some cats do not react favorably to diphenhydramine (Benadryl). Take the cats to the vet for proper diagnosis and treatment.
