Q: Do cats drink water often?

Hi everyone. Thanks for all your replies. Yes, my baby eats (like a horse) canned food mostly, and occasionally picks at the dry food( the BETTER quality!)

I guess he must be getting it that way. I will still leave out the water anyway. Now I have to ask about BEHAVIOR issues... (LOL)

Regards to all my ZOOTOO friends,

Our cat doesn't seem to drink a lot of water either. If your kitten othewise seems healthy, I wouldn't be too concerned. Just make sure he always has fresh water available. I don't know how old your kitten is, but I also assuming he has been thoroughly examined by a veterinarian. Do watch closely for signs of dehydration. A quick test that is in my first aid book is called the scrruff test. SImply grab a pinch of skin at the top of your pet's head then release it. Skin loses elasticity when dehydrated, so the longer it takes to spring back into place, the more severe the dehydration. Also keep in mind that if your kitten gets wet food, that is extra water beyond what he is drinking.

I have two 3 1/2 month old kittens and it seems they drink about 8 oz. or more a day but they only eat dry food.

Cats (and kittens) can get enough water just by eating canned food. Even if you don't notice your kitten drinking water, he probably does. He may not always drink from his bowl--some cats prefer to lick the kitchen sink, bathtub, etc.

As long as you offer/provide enough fresh water daily, your kitten should drink as much as he needs.
