May 7, 2008 | By Luvmyfurbabies | 6 answers | Expired: 2311 days ago

i just got this most wonderful kitten and was just wondering if any of you take your cat or kitten with you...i mean like in one of those tiny dog bags, or something like it?? this would include in stores, groceries, etc. just like a tiny dog, but a cat instead. any stories, experience or advice would be appreciated. as some of you know, i HAD a minpin named Bentley (rip), and i was actually training him to be my constant companion, but unfortunately that will no longer be possible..i am not going to go into details, but i miss my bentley. anyway..back to the question: if anyone actually does this with their cat or knows of someone who does, please let me know. THANKS!!!

It's a fine idea. Just to be on the safe side I would also use a cat harness and leash. As I'm sure you know cats are FAST. If they decide to bolt there is no way you are going to catch them. Also be sure to have the kitten vaccinated for every disease that you can. There are a lot out there.

While raising several abandoned kitten babies (from 2 weeks old until able to be on their own more) I did take them everywhere I went. These little guys were fed on demand through a nurser bottle and I wanted them to thrive. Many people give you funny looks - but they all traveled well in a cloth carrier. All are adults now, and I still have 2 of them. They still like traveling and often just curl up to sleep. I think the motion must be soothing as they started out traveling.

I often take my indoor cat, Hammy, on outings with me. We go to places where there are outdoor shops or Petco. He loves to go in the car and look out the window. I do not use a carrier since he'd just be in a cage and I'd feel like I was carrying luggage about instead of spending quality time with my cat. Hammy wears a harness & leash and I carry him. I also have a snuggly to carry him in if my arms need a rest. It has a hook to attach the leash to. He loves it and gets lots of attention from people who are surprised to see a cat out and about in this way. I'd start young though,I think many cats may have a hard time adjusting when they're older. I haven't vacationed with either of my cats because I'm afraid of leaving them back in a strange hotel room or house.I can't deal with the thought that they may get out. If you do it definately have the harness and leash on at all times. As Marta J. said, you absolutely CAN NOT hold a cat that does not want to be held. If something frightens them they will be gone without that leash!
