Labs shed, I did get a rake type ting for her undercoat and then I brush her out with a rubber brush, but she is a walking black hairball, she's a rescue I'm a greyhound person Annie (lab) s a long story, but i've had her 2 yrs now and I love her, I also changed to a highgrade hoistic kibble and I must say shedding has been down took about 4 mo to kick in, it has also helped her weight and allergies I give her Verus menhaden, potato & Omega 3 it is more expensive than pet food store but ignore the bag direction and cut what you feed in 1/2 so you realy end up paying less I also add frozen string beans & carrots & cook a couple bags a week put in fridg nke to room temp and add to food with a spoonful of wet food she also gets cored apples a couple slices(no seed, poison) she gets dog treats just not as much, she's about 11 we think and she looks like a new dog and shedding is not 1/2 as bad also DON"T brush every day, try 1x a week, Vet told me that will sometimes make it worse, he has labs and hey also molt 2x a yr, wait till you see that and got the diet from a nutritionist Good Luck

Labs are NOTORIOUS shedders, probably moreso than most breeds I've encountered!! Keep in mind, some shedding is a good thing, however excess shedding may be an indicator of a poor diet.

My first recommendation is feeding him the highest quality diet you can afford. You can also supplement with fish oil pills, flaxseed oil, I've even heard a tablespoon of vegetable oil ON OCCASION can help out too (I don't recommend this one, while it helped my pup, it can quickly lead to obesity if fed too often). There are also products you can buy for healthy skin and coat.

Frequent or daily brushing is also key in helping to reduce shedding, so try to brush him a couple times a week at the very least.

Good luck!

Flaxseed is great for pets too! Look up the product review for Barleans Flax Oil for pets for more information. I don't know that it helped overly much for shedding with my dog but it is very healthy. I think regular brushing is the best thing. Try getting one of those "FURminator" combs. They're quite expensive, but they do a great job.

I had a friend who said it helped when they used conditioners and moisterizers on their lab's coat. Some feed their dogs oils that supposedly help the coat. Flax seed is good for humans. I don't know about dogs.
