We found a cat this afternoon in our garage. He's been here for 5 days and we now know he's here. The door has been open and he won't come out!

We've put out tuna and water and closed the garage door to keep him from getting too cold. (It's already gotten pretty cold) and we've been out. Everytime we say something, he sits there, but if we come close he runs. How can we get him to saftey!? He's pretty scraggly and looks no more than 7 months old.

Thanks for your help,
Zoe

I would get a live trap and set it out with the tuna in it maybe some soft kitten food too make sure it is fresh or he may not come out once you have caught him in the cat trap put a blanket over it to calm him down and take him straight to the vet good luck!

You don't really have time to win over the cat's trust since cold weather is moving in. A humane trap is your best best. Sometimes you'll be able to trap them the first day and other times it takes a few days. If you don't have a trap, you can typically borrow one from your local shelter or humane society. After you've caught the kitty, you can transport it to the vet while it's still in the trap. As Ches said, covering the cage will keep kitty calmer. Do make sure that your vet is willing to examine a possibly feral cat. You may have to go to a humane society or different vet.
