A couple nights ago I was sitting with daisy and her tail was hard I noticed and up. What is this, and is it bad? I haven't seen it anymore but I need to know what was that about. Help!

daisy was showing dominance. she's still learning about all the sounds and people and places and she's nervous about them. dachshunds are more inclined to stiffen their tail than tuck it between their legs, but in her case it means the same thing. by stiffening her tail and showing dominance, she was saying "don't you dare try to mess w/me!".
if she does this again, distract her...but w/o being all lovey dovey or offering her food. is there anything you normally do that gets her attention in a positive way? like jingling a leash or throwing a ball or opening the back door? what you don't want to do is attach a positive outcome w/this, but you do want to get her attention off of it w/o having compensation for her behavior. does that make sense?
