Q: Chihuahua allergic to outdoors
Chihuahua allergic to outdoors
If I take China outside to potty just one day out of the month she will chew & chew until her paws bled. She's also allergic to benedryl. When she comes in from being outside whether it is for 5 minutes or longer, her paws and belly is red as fire. I'm at my wits ends because I just hate using those puppy pads. They're expensive too. I hate that she can't go outside to run around & play. Any suggestions? Cementing my yard isn't an option. :(

Sounds like grass allergies. Maybe the vet can try something besides Benadryl. Steroids can be effective, but I don't think they're good for long-term use.

I would ask my vet if there are any other medications that might help her. Do you have a patio or deck where she can play? Maybe a nearby park with tennis courts? She would really be able to run there! Otherwise you'll have to walk her a lot on the street or sidewalk for her exercise. I hope you can figure something out. Good luck!
