Q: Celebrity Visits

Has any shelter found a celebrity willing to appear at their fund-raiser without charging a big fee or requesting anything unavailable because of location or finances? We've asked a couple of well-known individuals to help, but their fee is more than we could ever pay, would deplete any money we could expect to make at our fund-raiser, or they want certain criteria our small county is unable to provide. Do you know of any celebrities who make their appearances just to help the shelter animals?

There are reasons why celebrities do not just do what they would like.... when you are signed up with an agency - all photos and releases are assigned to your agent...... You might not think it is a big deal - BUT - think about it - especially in a society now that as instant photos on cell phones and people shoving for that picture and then they go around and sell it for money to a tabloid? The 2 times I have had friend at my school - I have taken peoples cell phones and banned all camera except for the 1 that my school had set up. You have to be totally responsible for making sure that NO MONEY will be made (except for maybe the fundraiser) and that the celebrity will be taken care of well. You might want to go through their agent too...... a good agent nows when their client needs good PR and sometimes is looking for it - why don't you try Mel Gibson - he is looking for some good PR now? Don't know his agent.

Big name people, no. Where you may have success is with local TV and sports personalities. Often times it will be a win win. The opportunity for local folks to meet those they are familiar with from TV and for the local celebrity to bring converts to their station or sports team. If however you are looking for Cesar Milan type, they will break the bank.
