Spice will be turning 8 in 2 months. I am feeding her Meow Mix and sometimes some wet food. When does she need her diet changed? What age? She is mainly an indoor cat with short outings. I can't stop her... she'll barrell me down to get outside if I try.
Oh, Spice is a tabby cat of normal weight. She was adopted thru your society.

I would ask your Vet. But I would say that a cat should be put on senior food at the age of 7. I am a huge Nutro, Natural Choice or Max food so I would try that. It is more expensive than what you are feeding now but you should have better results and better nutrition. Your cat should eat less, shed less and their should be less clean up. They also have a loyalty program after you buy 10 bags you get one free. Go to www.nutroproducts.com and sign up for free coupons and they also have people in the pet stores or farm stores to help you pick out the best food, ask at the store when the Nutro people will be there and go at that time and talk to them.

The best thing for her would be to switch to a higher quality food without articicial coloring added to it. If you want to stick to a supermarket brand, I would recommend Purina ONE for senior cats. Just make sure that if you do decide to switch cat foods you do it gradually over the course of 10 days to help avoid digestive upset.

good luck

The only time I made a major change to the cat's diets was when they developed urinary tract infections. I was using both Friskies and MeowMix at the time. Switched to IAMS at vets suggestion and have had no problems since. Just have to watch the cat--if she starts gaining weight, then another change may be called for.
