Q: Cat eating cardboard?

Cat eating cardboard?

My cat loves to chew on/eat cardboard and paper. We try to keep this stuff put up so she can't get to it, but it's pretty easy to forget and leave something out. It makes her throw up, I really don't know why she insists on doing it...is this normal? Has anyone else had this problem? And any suggestions as to what to do would be great...thanks!

My cat, Lyle, chews on EVERYTHING. My friends and I joke about getting him a dog bone to keep him satisfied. So far, his chewing has not been a problem, but this is not to say that it's normal. He is the only cat I have ever seen that likes to chew on things. I would say though, as long as your cat is only chewing on cardboard that it would not be a health issue.

I've had this problem too with a few cats chewing on card board and newspaper.. It seems to come and go. I had one cat that like to lick photographs so could never leave them out unless we wanted cat spit all over them. Also, have a cat that used to like to chew on electrical cords. She would often break the thin ones. Fortunately, she quit this dangerous habit on her own.

One of my cats tears the newspaper into strips and eats them--sometimes while I'm still reading it. Normal? What's normal for a cat? I asked the vet and he said it's all vegetable dye and won't hurt him. I'd keep him out of gift wrap and stuff like that, though. There is sometimes weird chemiclas in the colorings.
