Cat Carrier, which do you reccomend?

I need to buy a cat carrier, we always used one of those cardboard ones but then I used some one elses to take their cat in for vet visits and saw what I'd been missing.
What type do you use, would you by that type again?
Where did you buy yours and about what price range was it?

The "Double Door Deluxe" (around $45 when I bought them years ago in PetSmart and/or PetCo--more now) are the most practical for getting the cat in and out of. The "drawback" is that the top is exposed and it may need to be covered during rain/snowstorms. It is also better to have at least a medium-sized carrier. The smaller (and often prettier and more colorful) carriers made for cats are actually too small for a full-grown cat.

Whatever carrier/brand you buy, go for a STURDY one. It is better to pay twice as much for a good, solid carrier that is durable than to end up buying a second cheaper carrier after your first cheap carrier breaks!

I have medium sized Vari-Kennels for all 3 of my cats. I got them in the dog sections of my local pet supply store. They are airline approved and very strong. They are a little more expensive but in an emergency the cats can stay in them for an extended time. I got the first 2 in 1988 and they are still in such good condition that it is hard to tell them from the one I got in 2005

I have a soft sided carrier for my siamese (for some reason he doesn't like the hard kind) and for my other cat i have the standard hard shell carrier .
