Q: Can anyone recommend a good cat water bowl?

Several of my cats either tip over their water bowls or do what I call the "Water Dance" (slop the water out with their paws). I have tried those bowls that keep the water aerated with a pump. The cats love it, but they still do their "Water Dance", and if I am away, the water level can get low enough to burn up the pump. I need a water bowl that isn't easy to tip over or one that may have a lip on it to lessen the spillage.

Together my roommate and I have four cats.. so we had problems with sharing, spilling, water level.. pretty much everything. I have used both Drinkwell and Petmate fountains but recently switched to the Catit fresh and clean for cats and small dogs. I will never use another fountain. I love the dome shape because the water flows all around so they can share more easily. It is also quieter than the other fountains that I have used. The best part is that so far they have not been able to spill it!

I don't know what brand it is, but I've had good luck with one I found at PetsMart. It has the water and food dish connected, then both raised about 5 or so inches off the ground and held up by little feet. It's pretty sturdy and my cats have never tipped it over (and one of them used to flip it across the whole kitchen floor). I'm not sure of the name, but if you ask for one of the bowls on stands, you should find something.

We have the new Catit fountain and a Drinkwell with the large reservoir. They seem to have solved the problem for us.

My friend "swears" by her Petmate water fountains! Her cats love drinking from the waterfall. The water is oxigenated and kept more fresh, requiring less changing than if it were in a regular dish. Can be purchased in two different sizes.

We had the same problem. I use the drinkwell fountain and added the additional resevoir. After the first couple of days, they got accustomed to the fountain and no longer splash water all over th floor.

The best "cat water bowl" isn't a "cat water bowl"! I've tried many different types, including the fountains, but my cats prefer a clear ice bucket! They like to be able to stand while drinking and the clear bucket enables them to clearly see the water line--thereby eliminating the need to test the water level with their paws! I put the ice bucket inside a heavy duty dog dish for added security. I have NOT had any spills since using this ice bucket. (Although I did accidentally knock one over with my foot once!)
