Q: Best way to keep cat from ruining new furniture?
I have a 14 year old cat who likes to sharpen her claws on my furniture (regardless of alternatives I buy for her). Am replacing couch and need suggestions on how to keep new chairs protected.

You could try a scat mat but I prefer bitter apple spray for cats. Spray 1 shot only in their mouth, then near the areas you'd like them to stay away from. Give them a scratch post and spray it with cat nip spray.

I have recently heard there are Gel covers for cats nails. You can do yourself or take to a vet. hey last up to 6 weeks and prevent them from digging into furniture and such

Make sure you have plenty of scratching posts for your cat to use! It helps if you put some catnip on them to draw their attention to them! Also spray the furniture with a pet repellent usually you can find them in the pet departments at stores! It also helps if you keep your cats nails trimmed regularly! If all else fails your only other option would be to get them declawed if it gets out of hand and the other solutions don't work!
