carefresh is very absorbent. I worked at a petstore for a year and that's what we used with all the small animals. we never had problems with respiratory problems from the bedding.

stay away from fragranced litter such as cedar because that can cause respiratory problems and if I remember correctly, they may have oils on them that are not good for the animals (?).

I prefer aspen wood bedding, myself, but others like CareFresh. Whatever you get, make SURE it's not pine or cedar, as they are not good bedding for respiratory health.

I use carefresh, but I have not tried aspen wood bedding. I also buy a little round tube that the hamster tears apart. I have to buy it every four months it comes with soft yellow stuffing that he makes into a bed as well. It is called Chewbular play tube. You can find it at www.superpetusa.com
