Barn Owl Photo in Pet Wars

Why is there a photo of a Barn Owl in the Pet Wars? It is illegal to own a Barn Owl or any other raptor without a government permit. An individual would have a very difficult time getting a permit. Extensive training and licensing is required for any ownership of birds of prey. Falconers are highly regulated. The Barn Owl with me in the photo attached to this question is part of a collection of education animals owned by a zoo with a government permit. By the way, most people don't know that it is not legal to even have feathers from a raptor. The only exceptions are for Native Canadians and Native Americans who use them for religious purposes.

Maybe its a joke or they are just trying to get points by putting up random pictures...don't you think?

Well, someone should find out for sure and educate this person about barn owls -- that's the whole point of websites like this -- we live and learn -- we learn from each other -- so, the person with the barn owl should pay attention and do what is right for the barn owl's sake. If not, maybe he or she should be reported. Once again, for the sake of the barn owl, the right path should be taken.

Perhaps they got a picture of a barn owl and it's possible that they used the picture as their profile picture for their animal and that's why it would be entered in the pet wars. Thus, they don't actually own the barn owl but thought it would be a cool picture to post. Just a thought to give the benefit of the doubt.

I have pictures of the animals (squirrels and chipmunks) that my cat watches. I guess they may not be considered pets but they keep coming back and they eat the bird seed that falls to the ground.
This could be along those lines- the person has a 'relationship' with the animal but not considered by some a "pet".

There are some possibilities why there is a Barn Owl photo in pet wars.

1-maybe it is owned with all that you state above.

2-many people add additional 'pets' which are actually something else. IE., wildlife, adoptable pets, In memory, etc. This could be the case and the Bran Owl photo would then be the one used as the profile picture for that 'pet'. So in essence it is not a pet but just the profile of another category. (there is no way to add another category and this is the easiest way to do so.
