A local charity (non animal related) has decided to auction off a dog this year to raise money. I want people's opinions. Is this a good idea or bad idea and why? From their email, they will be offering a puppy at the auction and want suggestions of breed so they can get that type of dog from a breeder.

This is a horrible idea. This dog will end up back at some shelter.

I don’t like this idea at all. Dogs shouldn’t be an impulse buy and this seems what would happen at an auction. They are living creatures and should have owners that put some thought into acquiring them. I own two dogs and consider myself somewhat knowledgeable about them, and I would never acquire a dog this way. They are better off to auction off a vacation or something other than a live animal.

Nope. Not the way to go at all. Why not auction off a "dog lover's basket" with toys, treats, etc for someone?
