we were told he was a full chihuahua - but he has spots like a jack russell and his face looks like a rat terrier

Maybe Chihuahua & Fox Terrier. Very cute!

Not knowing the breed of your dog, it cannot be said for certain at this point if they will stay erect or not. My full blooded chihuahua, well, her ears started standing up at the exact same age, and then dropped again 10 days later, only to stay partially erect, with the tops flopped over. (Very, very cute!). Even though, there is nothing you can do to make them flop again if they choose to stand. Just wanted to share this as mine ended up falling, it does happen :)

i agree that the ears are cuter and more endearing when they flop down, but in some breeds, the ears affix upright as the dog matures.

Why don't you upload a photo so people can see what he looks like.

No the ears are gonna stand up the chihuahua has tall pointed ears that is what they are suppose to do. Dont try to force them to stay down you could hurt your puppy. look at tthe breed most of them have the erect ears
