Q: Are white cats softer?

OldWetHen and I have decided to take a poll. I've noticed on my own cats that the white one is softer, and even on my orange and white cat the white fur is softer, too. What do all of you think? I noticed there is no category for this question, so I'm choosing the best as I can!

I would say "not necessarily".. My Kiki (white) has soft rabbit like hair, but on the other hand my Wanda, also white has very coarse hair. So who knows.

let's see...i don't have any solid white cats. Spot comes closest, he's a good mix of orange and white, and while he's not the softest, he definitely has the thickest coat. the softest of my kitties are Scooter (yellow) & Butterball (buff). the 2 blue kitties (Churp and Gracie) tend to be sleeker.

hi i was hoping to find this this morning i have alsways been told tht in newfs the blacks and the black and whites have different hair. the white on the lanceerers is softer then the blacks and even the black parts on the same dog. i guess if it is this way on a dog it must be on a cat too. i don't understand this but it is so. i know my grey hairs are not as soft as my brown hairs on myh own head. i wonder if the black or colored hairs would ook different then the white under a microscope

Cats are all different, just like people. Our cat Gretchen was a "blue" and her fur was like velvet. Jimmy and Athena are both tabby/torbie mixes - Jimmy's hair is more thick and coarse and hers is shiny and silky. Everything in their environment is the same so it must be in the genes.

I would have to say no. I have had gray tigers, black and now, my Kittles. All of my babies have always been soft. I think it has more to do with whether they are indoor/outdoor, diet, health and how much you bathe and brush them. My kitties have always been soft. I must admit that my kitties have always been indoor babies that get bathed every couple of months and brused nearly every day.

No fur is not softer by color, however the genes that produces fur is different in each cat...that is how they got so called "hypoallergenic" cats (they are the mutts with that gene combination).

My opinion, I dont think white cats in general are softer, it all depends on breed and fur type :)
