Q: Are white cats softer?
OldWetHen and I have decided to take a poll. I've noticed on my own cats that the white one is softer, and even on my orange and white cat the white fur is softer, too. What do all of you think? I noticed there is no category for this question, so I'm choosing the best as I can!

i haven't noticed white cats to be softer or even the white on multi-colored cats to be the softest. the softness of a coat depends on the breed of cats and the diet they're fed. your white cat is probably from a softer coated lineage than your orange and white cat. i think the reason you find the white on your orange and white cat to be the softest part is b/c of the area it encompasses. the chest, legs, stomach and chin are the softest parts on a cat, whereas the fur on the parts that would have to brave the weather the most will generally have stronger, less soft fur. this is true for most breeds, but some cats, probably those bred under stricter guidelines to be indoor companions, are soft all the way around. for instance, one of my cats is white and grey banded and she is as soft as a bunny, but the softness doesn't differ between the white and grey.
