As with our own food, it's wise to read the ingredients and country of origin. If there are a lot of chemicals and fillers, I stay away from them.

I get my dogs natural biscuits from a place on Coffeen st in watertown. The name of the place is A Barker's Dozen. It has all sorts of different items. Check it out. My dogs love the ones made with carrots, beef stew, and buffalo stew.

Most treats you buy at places like Walmart aren't the heathiest, but given in moderation aren't going to hurt. I give my dog the canine carry outs. Not a health food but dogs love them. 1 or 2 a day aren't going t hurt them. I was alwways told by our vet to stay away from Raw Hide chews. I buy the Nylabones.

There are some treats I would recommend and others I would not. Some to stay away from are:
-bones. the real ones. They can splinter and kill a dog in minutes.
-PIgs ears. These can be harmful depending on the size and personality of your dog. I knew a pit bull who loved pigs ears so much that he would try to eat them in one bite, and he actually died choking on one that way. Little dogs are usually fine with pigs ears, but bigger dogs should be watched if given pigs ears, until they finish the treat. Sam thing can happen with the rawhides that have the knots on the ends, they can chew those off the ends and then try adn swallow those whole.

Ones I recommend are milkbones, or any kind of biscuit, straight raw hides, and kongs with treats in them. Jerky treats are fine, and most any soft treat. Hope this helps!

My mom and I make our own treats. This one is the easiest. You can cut it in small pieces and give some to your dog on a walk, or give them a big slice to munch on at home.
1) Take skins off a sweet potato, cut it up (however you'd like), then dry it in a food dehydrator (oven works too)until it is firm, but not rock hard.
