Q: Are pet bunnies fun to own?

It depends on the person. Some people love having them, others don't for various reasons. I thought I'd love having a rabbit and had a close friend who had 3 of them and wanted many more. With mine, he was not very lovable and didn't like to interact with people. He liked the dog very much but was very upset about having to be around people. In the end he got very ill with something the vet couldn't cure. Many vet visits and high vet bills were OK by me because I still loved him even though he didn't want much to do with me or my husband. When people asked how I liked having a rabbit, I told them it was something I'm glad I got to experience but he would be my first and last bunny. We had to help him to Rainbow Bridge just this last November. It was very difficult and I miss him. I am going to stick with dogs and cats, but that doesn't mean you won't like having a bunny. Maybe see if there is someone you know that has one that will let you take care of it for some time to see how you would like it.

I had 6 bunnies as a kid and I loved them. They loved to run around toe year and finding the carrots. I think they would make a great pet.

Bunnies are a big responsibility and a 10 year committment. Make sure that you will really want to care for a bunny for that period of time. Bunnies are exotic pets and their vet bills can get very pricy. Try to find a shelter or rescue in your area that deals with bunnies. It is best to adopt an adult bunny that is already spayed or neutered. That way you can also get to know their personalities. I foster bunnies for a local animal shelter and they can be a lot of fun. They can also be a lot of work!
