I have found that the best prevention for hairballs is getting rid of excess hair before they even end up in kitty's tummy. I used the "Furminator" on my cats and that seems to help. Also my cats seem to like the "Mark & Chappell Defurr-UM Treats" and are easier to give to cats than petromalt.

There are a couple of things you can try. I get catlax from the vet and you can also use vaseline. You just put it on their paws and they'll lick it off.

You actually can use the hairball control treats too. I buy Science Diet Indoor Cat/Light/Hairball control food and it really makes a big difference.

Hope this answers your question!

There are many special foods and remedies, I never used any of them. For my longhaired Tabby, I use to give him a can of real tuna in oil once a month and he never had a problem with hairballs.

I would also add a few drops of fish oil on his kibble weekly, it's good for their overall health and I never had to pick up those nasty hairballs :)

PS Good brushing too, it's a nice way to spend time with your cat, they love it and it gives them a little help especially during shedding season...hope this helps
