Q: Any hints or ideas for camping with a dog?

I have a 6 month old Pointer/Heeler X puppy. She is well on her way to being a great dog, housebroken and obeys well. She is still not the best at totally sleeping though the night. My husband and I are huge campers and we really want to be able to take her with us on our tent camping trips. Does anyone have any ideas for taking a puppy in a tent or being in campgrounds with a dog? Any advice would be appreciated.

we have a german shorthaired pointer that we camp with. We mainly go to state parks that are very dog friendly and only require proof of rabies and being on a leash. They also provide poop bags. We bring collapsable dog dishes and his bed if he has one. Otherwise he is right between the 2 of us when we sleep which i really don't mind but it doesn't leave much room, lol. If you are in bear country beware that they can smell them coming when you can't and my dog was ready to rip himself out of the tent. So there I am in pitch dark with the dog jumping into the truck, (to protect the dog, not me, lol). A couple of minutes later here come 2 sets of glowing eyes coming down the drive. The dogs do scare them away though. Might sound like a contradiction. Going camping with my dog is one of the pleasures in my life. We walk, walk, walk, swim, hang out. All alot of fun and they love it. Enjoy!

Now is the best time to start taking your puppy camping. My husband and I take our two shepherds with us all the time. Make sure your dog has ID tags and is micro chipped just in case she gets lost. We find campgrounds on the internet that welcome pets and our two just love to sleep with us in our tent. I say go for it and enjoy.
