Q: allergies

I have discovered I have a severe allergy to any flea treatment product be it soap, collar, spray or pill. This allergy is serious enough that I am sometimes laid up for up to 6 weeks when I've touched an animal wearing any flea treatment. Is there a product out there that I can use on my pets that won't half kill me? When my outdoor dogs are treated I can't be anywhere near them for a couple weeks until it gets into their system which they don't understand. This has been an ongoing problem for a while and my sister recently moved in with us and she has 3 cats that she insists on putting treatment on despite knowing about my allergy so I have to spend my day avoiding her cats to keep them from touching my skin. Helpppppp

The last person to respond was correct about seeing an allergist. They can do scratch tests to determine exactly what you are allergic to. You'd be surprised how often an allergy is due to something other than what you suspect. Are you sure you aren't allergic to the cats and not the flea treatment? I'd also suggest you have the cats treated by a vet who might recommend something less toxic.

Have you seen an allergist? Did your allergist diagnose this problem or did you self diagnose? There are several different kinds of pesticides and you did not mention the exact pesticide(s) you have a reaction. The is the kind of thing to ask a professional allergist doctor.

There is a little known about 6 month flea shot that some country vets use. Not many vets use this because if your cat has a reaction to this shot, it is usually deadly. They'll make you sign a consent form first. If you can even find someone in your area to administer this shot.

Do your pets go outside at all? Are your pets even having flea problems?

We use Basic H from Shaklee because it's free of neurotoxins & carcinogens. Basic H can be used a dozen or more ways. You can use it to bath your dogs & cats in since it's all natural, you can also use it as hand soap etc. It contains all natural ingredients that if by accident your pet was to swallow some or eat it wouldn't harm them. I know I thought when I heard it was all natural that it wouldn't work. Boy was I suprised! It works awesome & lasts forever since you only mix a teaspoon are less for the different cleaning mixetures you want. Shaklee has a pet book that tells all the ways you can use their products for pets. Shaklee's Basic H smothers the fleas & ticks when you use it to bath them. They die & wash down the drain. I have used it & would recommend it to any pet owner. I have heard it's success stories from people w/ horses as well that need to use fly prevention products. They use the basic H mixtures w/ water. You do have to purchase it from a representative but it's definately worth it, financially you will save a ton of money on cleaners & also on flea/tick products, collars, sprays that you are using now & making yourself sick because of the damaging chemicals in them. I don't sell Shaklee but I do think it would really help you. Pull it up on line & check it out before you buy anymore flea/tick products or get anymore sick. They do have small samples also of this product if you go to a show or ask to try a sample before buying since you have bad allergies. Best of luck to you!

Have you considered not using flea treatments? perhaps try treating your home and/or yard (it dissipated once everything is killed) and then just give your pups baths to make sure that fleas arent on them.

Maybe you can ask your doctor about your allergy. If you can find one specific chemical ingredient it is your allergic to, you can search for a flea treatment that doesn't have it.
