Daryn J.

My baby girl just wolfs he food down in about 15 seconds. She is always sniffing the floor for nuggets. She eats rocks and anything that she finds on the floor. I feed her 1/2 cup of food 3 times a day. I give her more food than the bag says and she still acts like she is starving. she has been wormed. Is this just puppy behavior. She tore into the big dogs food and looked like she ate a cantaloupe which I know can kill her. Help please.

I meant to say 1/2 to a full cup in the morning for breakfast then again at night for dinner. With a 1/2 cup somewhere in between. If you give her a bit and let her eat that.. wait a few minutes and give her some more or the rest of it her pace is slowed down a bit. actually it works to two benefits she sees you as the keeper of food and pack leader and also it slows down so she can relax before she woofs down more.

I like the wooden block idea as long as she doesn't eat it.. Between 12 weeks to 6 months they start to lose their baby teeth.. which has a lot to do with them wanting to chew on everything too.. I would make sure you have puppy teething toys and/or a good nylabone (not edible) for puppies.

There is a bowl called BREAK-fast. My friend uses it for her lab and it works great.
Good Luck with your ADORABLE puppy.

Oh, I thought of something else! (BTW - great idea Debbie, I do that too, I split up his feedings to 3 times per day).... they say to get medium sized wooden blocks to put in their food bowl, that way they have to work around the blocks to get to their good, it slows them down.

I agree with debby , Some puppies are like that and some never out grow it . I really dont think they even taste the food its almost like you are starving them . good luck on that little cutie

Sounds typical.. I am not sure what you are feeding her.. but you might want to give her a 1/2 to a full cup in the day and night and a half in the middle. .. but don't give her a full cup at one time.. split it up two or three ways and give her a bit at a time. I know a lot of people because of the breed of dog and bloat that split the dogs food up in multiple settings because they gulp down their food so fast. Sometimes if they don't slow down you need to slow them down.. My girl eats normal but I had a few fosters that would take forever and some that inhaled it and looked for more.

BTW she is SO adorable..

ohhhh my... she is beautiful... i love the patch on her eye...

sounds like normal puppy behavior... everything goes in her mouth... she will slow down as she gets older... my Bruno used to be that way... but he also slowed down... now, he does the nibble, leave, come back in a while & nibble some more...

lisa was talkin about the gulping bowl, i have never used it, however i know people that have/do & they all have said good things about it... you may try it & find that it works for you as well...

I'm not a vet and not sure if it's normal puppy behavior, but my Mr. B. was the same way! Continually eating everything outside, gulping his food down in 20 seconds or less, etc.... I thought I was starving him, but he's almost 5 months now and he's not as bad, even though he still gulps his food, it's taking a little longer now and he doesn't eat the dirt and rocks as much outside now.... I've been digging things out of his mouth from outside for 3 1/2 months now and it's starting to slow down.... What a beautiful pup!!

I reviewed a bowl for dogs who gulp down their food. I found it on www.fetchdog.com it is called anti gulping bowl or anti something but I got it and it really works.
