How does one socialize their dog for the first time at a public dog park? Is there a trick? How can you be sure your dog with get along with others?

My dog likes any toy as long as he can destroy it! He loves to de-stuff, de-squeak, and de-string all of his toys. My cat likes to chase balls and strings but her favorite toy is the ring that comes off the milk container.
