how much should a one year old cat have for food? and how many times a day?

I am on a budget, so I can't buy expensive....But out of brands like Wiskas, Alley cat....(Brands like that.) What would be the best? And also kitten food please. So I need to know cat and kitten.

I read that dogs with cow pie like stools need more fiber in their diet. Any suggestions on how to do this without switching their food? They are sensitive to diet changes. I feed them Alpo by Purina.
