Does anyone know if there is a purpose for the Rhodesian Ridgeback to have a ridge on there back, or is this something that just developed through the dogs being bred and doesn't serve a purpose.

We got our puppy from a lady who claimed that she was a pomeranian/chihuahua. Well she is 5 months old and already weighs 7 lbs. From what I have heard that is quite a bit larger than most pomchi's.
