Pasco County Animal Control

While I find it hard to sometimes get through to the shelter on the phone, this group is working overtime at improving the quality of life for animals in their community. They have taken major steps to create an organization that will serve the community better than in past years and promote animal welfare. Years ago I would have given a much lower rating, but based on the progress I have seen and experienced working with this group they have risen in status.

Pros: Excellent Veterinarian on staff and progressive thinking staff

Cons: Poor community perception from past history

All animal services have a difficult job, that sometimes means seizing animals, euthanizing adoptable animals because they lack space, and tending to the sick and injured animals left to roam. That doesn't mean that you can lose sight that there may be people who also care and will look to animal services for help or guidance and a phone that rings busy for 3 hours or goes completely unanswered does little to provide help and comfort. I have had exposure to other animal services who, while they may detest some aspects of their jobs, treat themselves as an adoption agency not as a wharehouse for animals.
