Meeka is a 5 year old Bare Eyed Cockatoo with a hatch date of April 6, 2004. Meeka is a DNA sexed male. He can say hello, peek-a-boo and come here now. He says a few other things that we can not clearly make out yet and he makes lots of different whistle sounds and also laughs. Meeka is a little scared and nervous right now because he is being let out of his cage for the first time in over a year! So far, he seems to only want to interact with children, anyone taller seems to make him very scared, but I believe that in a few weeks he will open up and be a regular lover, however, we are sure that he does NOT like men. He does not seem to like traditional parrot toys but we have found he likes to attack paper! He does NOT like toes though, so watch out because he really loves to walk around on the floor and he is currently learning boundaries on what he can bite and what he can not, so he will bite toes. We dont think it is because he is being mean, we think he has just not been properly socialized and needs to learn what is acceptable behavior towards his human flock. He eats pellets readily and really loves peanuts as well as popcorn. He is learning that regular human foods like fruits and vegetables can be good too, but that will take some time for him to figure out. He loves to be soaked with a water bottle and he really wants to be in the room where everyone is hanging out. If you have tile floors he will rub his beak down the grout lines and he also likes to rub his beak against skin and clothes. He doesnt seem to notice the cats and he is not real sure what to make of the dog yet, but he seems really interested in the other birds although doesnt want to get close yet, just call back and forth for now. We feel Meeka will come out of his shell soon and be a wonderful companion!
